The MEA 14B is a battery-equipped portable instrument which can be used without a mains connection for up to five hours. In practice, a power-saving mode can extend the usable life of the battery by more than three times. In order to ensure that the MEA 14B is in good condition, self-calibration routines are provided for the electronics.
A check and a non-linearity compensation for the stability of the piezo crystal are implemented. This is done using a reference
vibration sensor which is kept only for these self-calibration tests.
